At first, I was hesitant to come to Abington House, because I was unsure what benefit living there right after coming out of rehab would bring me. After living at Abington House for 1 year, I can honestly say that giving myself this year has been the best decision of my life. Abington House afforded me a safe environment, filled with like minded people who I now call my best friends. Living at Abington was the best year of my life in recovery thus far. I grew as a person and learnt to adjust to the world after leaving rehab, and become the person i always wanted to be. Craig and Ben are two of the most caring and thoughtful people who are hands on and involved in shaping me into a better person and a productive member of society. I will forever be grateful to Ben and Craig for providing me with a place to stay whilst I reintegrated myself back in to “everyday” living , once I had left treatment in the Natal Midlands ! Abington House is in a league of its own ! I have stayed at various other ‘sober living’ houses in the past - too no avail . Not only is Abington House bespoke in the facilities that it provides, but what makes this place special is the recovery that is evident in the house! Craig leads by example in his no nonsense approach in getting you back into the swing of life but also ensuring that you tick all the boxes with regards to laying a solid foundation with your recovery , i.e. staying sober once you leave the house . I arrived at the house , having no friends , no clue on what, where or how I was going to keep myself solid on leaving treatment . Well by the time I had left the house we had started a new meeting in the area, I had a house full of friends who are now like family to me but I have carried on living the program in my own home now which was instilled in to me by living at Abington ! If you want what I have , which is an ever growing solid recovery with wonderful connections in the fellowships then Abington House is the place for you ! I stayed at Abington House for a year after coming out of rehab and it was exactly what I needed at that stage of my recovery. It is a place that truly does what it promises and helps you reintegrate into society and learn how to live again. During my time there I built structure, responsibility and independence. The environment is supportive but also real. They do not hold your hand, they guide you. I learned how to manage life on life’s terms and today I live on my own with a solid routine and a clear mind. Abington House is not about comfort, it is about growth. If you are serious about building a life in recovery, this place gives you the space and guidance to do just that. My time at Abington House was an essential part of getting to where I'm at today, living a peaceful, sober life as a valued member of my family and a contributing member of society. The staff at Abington House, both on-site and in-office, are highly respected, kind, strong people who have as their only goal the welfare and development of the people who choose to stay at Abington House. I've read a previous review making snap allegations against the Abington House staff, and I have to refute that allegation with all my conviction. As an openly queer man who has faced discrimination in my life, my experience at Abington House was one of acceptance and safety for myself, the other queer people, and the other People of Colour who stayed with me during my time there. I can personally speak to the fact that as a member of a minority group, Abington House is a diverse, secure environment where discrimination is not tolerated. In the situation (barely) detailed in a previous review, it sounds like the staff were trying to help a still-suffering addict, who deserves compassionate accountability. 6 Sept 2025 @ Dixie’s restaurant a representative of the Abington guest house engaged in throwing racial slurs at a couple loudly in front of the entire restaurant. You and your establishment should be utterly ashamed and called out for this behaviour
